Every student of
technology who plans on going into the building trades, or
surveying, should make one of these transits" says Teacher
George Granlun. Students can make the transit
inexpensively from scrap materials plus the vials/tubes offered below. The transit can be used for
laying out building and structure sites, fence lines and
barn pole locations, etc. It can also be used with a
leveling rod to do primitive contour mapping and profile
drawings. (Also see Beginner's Survey course below.)
Students are broken up into 3 person surveying parties & go into
the field to perform specific exercises. When they are
finished they will have a "mini masters" degree in
surveying! This program is loaded with information. The Maps
& Compass book listed below will complement the program. You
will need a set of 2 0875 vials & tubes for each transit you
make.
Well within the range of 10th graders, this course was
originally designed to tech real estate sales people how
to find corners, draw plats from land descriptions,
layout subdivisions plus topo maps all without the use of
trigonometry. It has been modified to accommodate students
headed for the building trades. Only simple math is needed!
